The KU Leuven will start a campaign to promote free access to research result via Open Access. The principle of Open Access – fast and free access to research results – is not the work of one specific institute, but is a growing and ever more popular item in the scientific community. “Open Access is not a new concept. In 2007 our university signed the so-called Convention of Berlin, in which scientific institutes pledged to contribute to the realisation of Open Access. Last year a roadmap was conceived within the LERU (League of European Research Universities) with exactly the same purpose. And around the same time, our university actively started backing up the project”, says the chief librarian Mel Collier.
