The University Library of Utrecht made hundreds of thousands of old manuscripts, books and maps available for the public.
Digitalized collection items can be viewed via the libraries’ website for special collections. They are offered thematically.
A special piece is added every month. This month it’s a map of the southwestern part of the Pacific Ocean which formed an instruction for robbing a fleet carrying silver as efficiently as possible. As from 27 April 2012 a number of pieces will also be shown in the museum Catharijneconvent during the exhibition ‘New discoveries from the Special Collection of the University Library Utrecht’. The exhibition shows the newest accessions and researches. A few examples are: a map of Abel Tasman containing instructions on how to rob a Spanish fleet transporting silver and architectural drawings of the Domchurch.
