The time for studying and exams is at hand. As in past years, the Central Library will open its doors for the studying fellow man. New this year is that you can also use the Exhibition Room on the ground floor – good for an extra 60 seats.

During the Christmas holidays, the Library will be opened from the 27th until the 30th of December, 9AM until 10PM. On New Year’s Day we are closed, but from the 2nd of January until the 1st of February we are open again, Monday to Friday, 9AM till 10PM and from 10AM till 7PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

From Thursday 2 June till Sunday 5 June and on Monday 13 June, all libraries will be closed: the Central Library and the Library of Law will still be open for studying, from 10AM to 7PM. Extra space will be provided at the following locations:

- Auditoria DV 01.54 and DV 01.56 at De Valk (Faculty of Law, same level as the Library), also open from 10AM to 7PM, except on 1 June, when they will exceptionally be opened at 1PM (to 7PM)

- at Campus Heverlee, auditoria 200M00.0006 and 200M00.0007 (at the Celestijnenlaan): they will be opened from 8AM to 5PM

Also, check the website of Blokken in Leuven for available space.

Do you want to study together during exams?

From 30th of May until 30th of June 2011 you can come to most libraries of the University Library, – from Monday until Friday, up to 10 p.m. In this period the Central Library and the library of the Law Faculty are also open for studying on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, up to 7 p.m..

Holidays are: Thursday 02.06 (Feast of the Ascension), Friday 03.06 (Feast of the Ascension bridge day) and Monday 13.06 (Whit Monday). On Friday 01.07 we start the summer regime i.e. Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm; Sat/Sun closed. The website www.blokkeninleuven.be  indicates where there are still study places are available.

Beware! To maintain correct data on the available study places: enter the library with your student card.

Beware! In this additional opening hours ordinary service (loan, stack requests, reprography) expires.

From today onwards only WATER in bottles with lockable cap will be admitted. All other beverages will be removed.

Since 2007, we notified in our building – a protected monument – a significant number of cases of damage as a result of the (involuntary) spill of sugary and other beverages.  A stricter policy is a necessity.

Mid March 2011 we made another adjustment.  The agreements on food and beverage will be applied in all the areas that are behind the access check, not only in the reading rooms.

We use this provocative title to inform our non-studying customers that from the 27th till the 30th of December 2010 the Central Library will be opened for Studying in Leuven only. During these extended opening hours basic library services are suspended. The same story goes in January 2011, after the normal opening hours: Mon-Thurs 8 p.m.; Fri 5 p.m.; Sat 1 p.m. and Sundays).

Do you want to study in group?

From the 27th till the 30th of December 2010 you are welcome in the Central Library and Alma 1.
From January 3rd till February 1st 2011 you can find a place to study in the university libraries. During this period the Central Library and the Law Library will be open on Saturdays and Sundays.

Due to the ongoing renovation project we can offer a room for group work.

It is room 02.45, on the floor of the Main Reading Room, near the Ladeuze-room and the ILL-service , see  floor plan.

The room can be reserved via centrale.bibliotheek@bib.kuleuven.be and the availability can be monitored on this website.  Same story for 3 of the 7 group work tables in the nearby Ladeuze-room, becoming a buzzing zone.

The Central Library is exceptionally closed on Thursday 10th of June, from 5.30 p.m. until 8 p.m..

From 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. she becomes available again as a study area.

Studying together gives reasons for many students. That is why the K.U.Leuven provides additional study space where students can study in group, during the exam period from 25th of  May until 25th of  June.

New is that students can use library facilities on Saturday afternoon (up to 7 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m. – 7 p.m.), in the Central Library. In the center of  town all libraries of the K.U.Leuven retain open from Monday to Thursday up to 10  p.m..

The libraries are additionally 68 hours open per week. After 7 p.m. there are 1125 extra study places available.

Via blokkeninleuven you can find out in which libraries study places are still available.

During these extra opening hours we offer no regular service; no stack requests, no borrowings, no payments, no registration, no tours, no external visitors.

To ensure the viability of the library buildings there is surveillance uniformly in effect on the current access, food and drink regulations.
